The Old North End, formerly Indian Town, is a wonderful,
if underrated, community. There are generations of families
who have raised their families there. Those who have returned
continue the tradition. Each neighbourhood has its challenges
and struggles; but as a neighbourhood efforts are being
made to address and conquer these. Hopefully, the City of
Saint John has heard the concerns of the residents and will
work with the community to ensure the vibrancy of this once
economically and socially prominent neighbourhood.
The neighbourhood’s biggest physical asset is geographic
area, with its close proximity to the water, two squares,
heritage and businesses so readily at hand. By far the biggest
and most valuable asset is the people, especially the children
and youth. The Old North End Community Centre and ONE
Change are working together to give children a safe
place to hang out.
